Frequently Asked Questions

1) My child is only 3 years old. Isn’t that too young to start music lessons?
Not at all! Our youngest learners thrive in our Sunshine level classes, where the curriculum is specially designed for 3–4 year-olds. Lessons are playful and engaging, with lots of movement, songs, and hands-on games. Plus, with parents accompanying their child in class, your little one will feel safe and supported while building strong foundational skills for music—and for life.
2) What if my child can’t sit still or loses focus easily?
We get it—and that’s exactly why our program works. Our classes are short, structured, and interactive. Children move, sing, clap, play games, and explore instruments. We intentionally build in rhythm, movement, and activities to keep little minds engaged. Over time, your child will build real focus and discipline, without even realizing it.
3) I don’t have a musical background. How can I help my child if I don’t know music?
You don’t need to be a musician—just a willing, supportive parent. Every class is designed for you to learn alongside your child. Our teachers guide you step-by-step, and we provide take-home materials and support so you’ll never feel lost. You’ll be amazed at how much you pick up too!
4) Why are classes done in groups? Won’t my child learn better with private lessons?
Group learning creates motivation, social development, and fun. Children learn best when they feel connected and supported—and our group format builds confidence, teamwork, and joy. That said, each child gets individual attention from their parent during class, and the structured curriculum ensures steady progress toward real musical goals, like exams.
5) What if we can’t make it to every class? Will my child fall behind?
We understand that life gets busy. Unfortunately, we do not provide make-up classes for kids and adults who are not able to make it for class. Teacher will share homework sheet and lesson summaries to help your child stay on track. Because the curriculum is structured and age-appropriate, your child can continue to progress even with occasional absences—as long as there’s parental support at home.
6) How do I know my child is progressing?
We have a clear, age-based curriculum with regular checkpoints, for example an assessment at the end of each level. Parents receive updates, and you'll see visible improvements in your child’s rhythm, pitch recognition, keyboard skills, and musical understanding. Most importantly, your child will develop confidence, perseverance, and joy in learning.
7) Will this help my child academically too?
Yes! Music education builds cognitive development, memory, and discipline. Many of our students show improved focus, reading skills, and even math performance. Music training enhances the brain’s executive functions, which benefit your child across all areas of learning.
8) What instruments will my child learn to play?
Our program includes keyboard foundations, rhythm instruments (like tambourines and castanets), and percussion activities. As your child progresses, they’ll develop solid piano-playing techniques, along with skills in note reading, rhythm, ear training, and composition.
9) What makes Music Zoo different from other music schools?
We are Singapore’s leading centre for parent-accompanied group music classes based on the internationally acclaimed MYC (Music for Young Children) method. With small class sizes, structured content, and warm, passionate teachers, we blend joy and rigour to nurture musical success that lasts.
10) DO I get a refund if I or my child leaves the program?
For MYC Programs and ABRSM group classes, deposit refunds are only applicable when your child has
1) completed full level of 36 lessons per level,
2) Given termination notice latest by lesson 32.

For individual lessons, 4 lesson-weeks advanced notice is necessary before the term ends.

All term fees paid are not refundable.

If your child exits mid-program without serving the required termination notice, term fee that had been paid will not be refunded and deposit will be forfeited.
